Top players, FIFA, CAF and health experts unite in the fight against Ebola

Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar are amongst the footballers who have teamed with FIFA and the Confederation of African Football to raise awareness of Ebola.

The "11 against Ebola" campaign promotes 11 simple health messages with the help of doctors and health experts from Africa, the World Bank Group and the World Health Organisation - all of whom are tackling the Ebola outbreak in Western Africa.

Ronaldo, Neymar, Phillipp Lahm, Didier Drogba and others are promoting the cause using the slogan "Together, we can beat Ebola" and also the hashtag #wecanbeatebola on social media.

Each patron has shared a message via film, radio, banners and posters for the campaign which launched on Monday, 17th November.

The specially chosen messages have been warning people of how the Ebola virus spreads, so therefore warns people to cook meat properly and report unusual illnesses, for example.

FIFA believe that football's top players are a powerful enough medium to assist with the fight against the disease, which has already effected over 14,000 people in Africa.

President Sepp Blatter said: “The popularity of football gives us a unique platform to reach all communities.

"We hope that football can play its part and that this campaign against Ebola can make a real difference on the ground as the world comes together to fight the virus and to help those living in affected communities.”

And one of the star name patrons, Neymar, added: “It is so important that we get the right information to those affected by the Ebola outbreak.

"We all hope this positive campaign will improve people’s understanding of the Ebola virus and help us to reduce the chances of it spreading.
